There is a "milonga" (a social tango dance party) every Monday night in the banquet hall of Billy Reed's Restaurant and Cocktain Lounge. They are located at 1800 N. Palm Canyon Dr. (which is the main drag), at the corner of Vista Chino, in the northern end of Palm Springs (about 1 mile south of the famous Tramway).
This venue has a big, beautiful wood floor, a great sound system, and wonderful decor. During this time of year, the Winter Season, we have many visitors from all over the world. We dance every Monday from 6:30 to 9 pm ("early hours"). Our format is tango, waltz, and milonga to the traditional music of the "orquesta tipica" (traditional tango orchestra) from Argentina's golden age of tango.
There is no door charge at the Palm Springs milonga, but attendees must buy a drink to support the bar.
We offer a tango class for first-time students and beginners Mondays, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm before the milonga, at Billy Reed's, address above. The cost for the class is $10. per person, cash only.
We have an intermediate level tango class Wednesday nights at Step-By-Step Dance Studio, located at 316 N. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs (downtown). This is at the corner of Amado Rd. We meet every Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 pm. In this class we get into the heart and soul of tango, waltz, and milonga. The cost is $15. per person, cash only.
